Settlement Update May 2016

On 25 May several of us joined with representatives from Ngai Te Rangi Iwi Trust to attend the first reading of the Ngai Te Rangi and Nga Potiki Settlement Bill at Parliament. Politicians from across the House congratulated Nga Potiki on reaching settlement with the Crown. Among the parliamentarians to support the Bill was Nuk Korako National List MP and Chairman of the Maori Affairs Select Committee, who in his address said;  
 
‘but one of the most beautiful things about this settlement is around the tikaka or tikanga particularly Sir, when we see the coming together of two iwi and particularly Sir, the uri of two brothers and I mention Sir, Rangihouhiri the ancestor of Nga Te Rangi and Tamapahore Sir, the ancestor of Nga Potiki, what a beautiful way to actually bring that together and embark of this journey to settlement’
